Step by Step Procedure and Field Description

Find Courses and Resources

There are several ways to browse training opportunities and enroll in a course. This document will explain how to utilize your “Catalog Search” options, or enroll in coursework that has been provided as Featured Courses or Subscription Courses.

Featured and Subscription Courses

LMS administrators can designate lists of Featured Courses and Subscription Courses, which display on your Classic Home or Navigation menu. Click the Course Image to view details, or begin training with course action buttons.

Catalog Search

Access this page from the  Navigation menu by clicking the Catalog Search  icon, or from the header “Catalog Search” shortcut. The Catalog lets users search for courses and, if enabled by their portal administrator, some or all course-related Resource file, links, and pages.

LMS administrators should continue to search and manage course records from the Administration > Courses menu.

Page through search results, change your preferred Items per page, or Sort by something other than the default “code”. Buttons in upper right corner of the page allow you to toggle between course Tile View or List View.

See an example of Tile View below, with sort by name and items per page options.

Keyword Search

If you have a course in mind, search by keyword.

  1. Enter all or part of a course Code, Title, Description, or Notes
  2. Press Enter key or click Search    button.
  3. To continue refining results, search different keywords or apply filters.

In this example, searching “transmission” returned six results. List was then sorted by “type”, grouping the Classroom courses at top, followed by eLearning courses below.

Filter

Click the Filter  button to open your filter options menu. Explore filters that help you refine the list of courses in view.

  • Browse by Topics
  • Types
  • Majors
  • Brands
  • Tuition

This filter menu is dynamic, providing options based on the set of course search results. Like many responsive menus, it is designed to display only applicable filters. So if you are looking at your entire course catalog, you may see more filter options available than you do after executing a keyword search.

  1. Click filter headers to expand all options.
  2. Select one or more filters, then click Apply. The menu will close, showing filtered results.
  3. Click the Filter  button to reopen the menu. Applied filters display at top of menu, for user reference.
  4. Remove individual filters by clicking the “x” in applied filter section, or by deselecting the filter in menu.
  5. Reset filters to clear all selections.

Course Details

Click a course image  or title to open a slide-in page with details about the course and your current enrollment status, in addition to action buttons which will vary based on your status in the course. Here’s an example of how to view course details from the Tile View for a user who is Scheduled in an offering. In this instance, the use has the option to Schedule into a different offering or as a manager,  Schedule Others or Substitute Students.

Enroll, Launch, or Schedule Courses

Course enrollment buttons are standard and available based on course type and course configuration settings. They have been categorized and described by name below. Hover over a button with your mouse to see a tool tip showing the button’s name.

Self-Paced Learning: eLearning, Self-Study, Assessment, Course Group

  • Launch course content in a new tab or window.
  • Enroll in courses with multiple lesson requirements.

Instructor-Led Training: Classroom, Virtual Classroom

  • Schedule your next training session from the list of course offerings.
  • Add Interest in a course, so you can enroll at a later date.

Course action buttons display to each user based on their individual training status. The LMS compares a user’s most recent training history  — including enrollment and interest transcripts  —  against course enrollment settings, to determine which action buttons provide the appropriate next step.

Training managers and administrators are able to enroll others in courses, helping to develop employee training plans and track team progress. Use the Course Search tool to quickly find a course, then use the action buttons on the slide-in to find the relevant option:
 Enroll Others in self-paced coursework.

  • Schedule Others for a live training session.
