Take Assessments to Demonstrate Knowledge

Students learn how to launch and navigate Assessment-style courses to demonstrate their knowledge or mastery of assigned learning content.

Feature Overview and Requirements

Assessment are created by portal administrators for a number of purposes, from simple quizzes to complex tests. They are used to understand how effective courses are and to assess how well students learned the content.

How you access Assessments will vary by portal based on the configurations made by your portal administrator.  Some common places you will see them include Course Search, Courses to Complete, and My Learning.  For organizations still using the Classic Home page, assessments appearing in the Self-Studies Section will now launch into the new Assessment experience, as well.

Step by Step Procedure and Field Description

  1. From the page on which you accessed the assessment course, click to open the slide-in.
Available action buttons will vary depending on how the assessment was configured by your portal administrator.
Note: If using the Classic User Interface Self-Studies list, click Launch to open the assessment directly.
  2. From the slide-in, click Launch to enroll in and launch non-tuition based assessments. For Assessments with tuition, click Purchase to pay prior to enrollment.

The image below shows common Action options for an Assessment with no tuition in which the student has not enrolled before. If you aren’t sure what a button does, hover over it with your mouse to get a tool tip.
    A. Launch: Simultaneously enrolls you in the course and launches the content.
    B. Enroll Others: Allows managers to enroll their employees in courses.

  1. After launching the course, the next page displays information about the assessment and action buttons, including:

    2. The minimum passing score

    4. Start: Launch the assessment
    5. Cancel: Exit the assessment without launching

If you failed the assessment, you may see a Retry option as noted below. This is only available if your portal administrator has configured the test to allow multiple or unlimited attempts to get a passing score.
Click Retry to do the assessment again.
The number of attempts you have remaining is displayed under your score.

  1. You will then be able to answer questions, one per page. Each question page may have the following components:
    1. Question Progress (e.g. 3 of 5)

    7. Progress: This bar indicates your progress percent through the assessment.
    8. Quick Navigation Panel: This panel showed a shaded square for each question on the test and is visible on every question. It serves two purposes:
      a. Allows you to click on a box to navigate directly to the related question.
      b. Provides at-a-glance information on which questions you have answered, flagged, or have yet to answer. The color coding is shown in the image and is described below.

      Current Question: Darker blue/white text
