Manage Images

Upload images to your LMS for use on HTML pages, your Header Logo, and to customize Course tiles.

Feature Overview and Requirements

Types of Images

Portal Administrators can manage the images used throughout their LMS. This function allows editing in the sense that you are adding or deleting the images available in your system library. The LMS does not provide the ability to edit actual image files. Modifications to the size, color, contrast, brightness, and other properties must be completed prior to uploading the image to the LMS.

Links at top of page allow you to manage two separate libraries, as shown below:

  1. LMS Images — Use these images for your Header Logo, Certificate Logo, and custom HTML content. The Edit HTML page offers a content editor with Image Library tool, and also allows you to insert images using links with relative paths.
  2. Catalog Images — Upload files and associate them with any learning objects in the catalog. Set defaults for each type of item — Assessment, Classroom, eLearning, Course Group, Self-Study, and Virtual Classroom or for Learning Paths and Resources. Associate images to individual objects to see the custom image override its default.

Note: Whenever a portal administrator wants to use an image in the LMS, it must first be uploaded via the Edit Images feature.

Recommended Image Sizes

  • General images used on HTML pages can be any size or shape appropriate for the page and the desired design.
  • Catalog Images are the images used on Course, Resource, or Learning path tiles on pages for which tiles are a display option.
Images will fit a space approximately 194 px by 112 px. To work on both the tiles and the slide-in page, they must use an aspect ratio of 1.73:1. The size can be larger than the pixel dimensions noted if the aspect ratio is the same. A larger high resolution image will size to fit correctly if the 1.73:1 AR is used. An example of that aspect ratio is 1280 px x 739 px. File type JPG is recommended.
  • User Images are associated with user accounts and if enabled, will show on the user’s My Learning page.
Images must be under 10 MB in size and will be fit into a 100 px by 100 px square. A 1:1 square aspect ratio is recommended.
  • Header Logos  appear on the left side of the LMS Header.
Images have a maximum height of 45 px and maximum width of 300 px. If one dimension is bigger than the limit, it will scale without stretching. If both dimensions are smaller than the limit, it will not scale and will just use the file values.
  • Certificate of Completion Logos are managed on display on certificates users can download or print after successfully completing a course or an accreditation. This is only for certificates where the logo is added by the portal administrator on the Portal Information page.
For best results use .JPG images with dimensions approximating 50 pixels in height and 400 pixels in width. If your organization engages LatitudeLearning to fully customize your certificate, there are more options available for the layout and design, therefore greater flexibility in logo size.

Note: Whenever a portal administrator wants to use an image in the LMS, it must first be uploaded via the Edit Images feature.

Setting Course Images for Individual Courses

A course’s Details and Course General Information pages include a Course Image field. By default, each course will display its associated “[Course Type] Default” image provided by Latitude for new portals. You can draw special attention and at-a-glance recognition to courses in your catalog by overriding the default with an image from your library.

  1. Open a course record and navigate to the General tab.
  2. Use the Course Image drop-down menu (A) to select a custom image from the library. Or click the Upload Images link (B) to open the Course Image library in new window/tab. Restore the default image any time by selecting “None” from the drop-down menu. “None” means the default, not no image.
  3. Once you have selected the desired image, click Save Course.
  4. Click the Details tab to see your image proportionally centered in “Course Image” field.

Course images will display on course cards at 194 px width by 112 px height. For best results, us an image with an aspect ration of 1.73:1.
