Enhancements to Improve Password and Resource Management

Our July 7th release will brings two important enhancements to the LatitudeLearning® LMS!

  • An updated Password Reset experience
  • A new experience for managing and accessing Resources, including the addition of Resources to the catalog along with courses.

Here’s a quick overview of both enhancements!

Password Reset Process

This enhancement makes all password reset actions in the LMS generate an email with a link to a new password reset page. No password information will be transmitted over email.

The password reset can be initiated in the following ways:

  • When a user clicks the Forgot Password link on the login page.
  • When an administrator adds a new user or edits an existing user and checks the Email User a Password Reset Link checkbox. The ability for a portal administrator to create a specific password and prompt a reset remains available.
  • When a manager uses +Add User or Change Password from the Manage Users page, then checks the Email User a Password Reset Link checkbox. The ability for a manager to create a specific password and prompt a reset remains available.
  • When users are added via APIs or custom user imports, if they are configured to notify usersBy default, the standard User Import process does NOT notify users about their accounts or passwords.

Changes to Password-related system messages:

We have updated the password-related system messages as part of this effort. A new message “Student – Password Reset Request” will replace the following messages, which will be deleted.

  • Student – Login Credentials Added/Updated
  • Student – Password Reset
  • Student Password Notification

This is an example of the new email.

The user clicks on the Reset Password link to access a page where they can reset their own password.
Our support page for this feature has been updated to show the detailed changes: Reset Password.

Resource Management and Access

We deprecated the Administration menu’s Resource and Resource Category management options, in addition to the Resource Library icon that had been used on the Navigation menu. Resources become learning objects in Course Search, which will now be called Catalog Search. We also redesigned the Portal Administrator’s Resource management tools.

To facilitate change management for our clients, we updated our support site to include the step-by-step procedures for the enhanced version at the end of the current documentation for Resources:  Managing Course Resources

Administrator Experience
  • A new Administration menu option Resource Catalog replaces the original Resources > Add/Search Resources and Add/Search Resource Categories options. This is where all resource maintenance will take place.
  • The new Resource Catalog administration feature is designed to be responsive and provide one place to manage all aspects of the resource, like adding new resources, including/excluding resources from the catalog by item or in bulk, and making resource updates.
  • We deprecated Resource Categories and resources and will instead use the same Topic structure employed for courses.
  • Because they are part of the catalog, there will be an option to add an image to the resource for display on catalog cards.

If the portal includes the Resource Library in the left navigation, all active resources will automatically appear in the Catalog after launch. Portal Administrator can then manage resource visibility in the Catalog in two ways:

  • Individually by clicking the Edit Resource button and checking or unchecking the Show in Catalog box.
  • In bulk by applying a resource filter, clicking Bulk Actions, and selecting either Show in Catalog or Hide from Catalog.
Student Experience

Students will find Resources using Catalog Search. Any resources included in the catalog by the portal administrator can be found using the same filtering options available for courses.

The Type Filter includes a new Resource option and any topics assigned to Resources will be available for filtering by Topic.
